Meeting 2nd September 2014

It was a busy meeting this week and it was good to see a few faces who have not been able to make the last few meetings.

It was great to get a visit from our Area Governor and her guest and a good opportunity to get some feedback on how our club is working.

There were four speeches and this is a pattern we have been following for the last few meetings as it gives more opportunities for members to book speeches, to help their Competent Communicator manual, and also offers more Evaluator roles which can be used in the Leadership manual.

The first speech was an Educational.  This is a speech that gives an in depth look at an aspect of Toastmasters and this week we had an Educational about Club Contests - What happens and what the point is.  It was particularly useful to see a judging sheet and realise that being a judge has a strict outline and is not as difficult as it seems.

There was a vibrant, buzzing atmosphere this week and the meeting was started off by Linda, our President, reading out a Thank You email from a member who had used the last meeting to improve a poem reading at a Wedding.  She told us it had gone really well and outlined the points made in the group evaluation that particularly helped.

We also had a newly-wed member and we had a fun session where she told us about her big day.

The next meeting, on 16th September, is the Heart Of England Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contest.  We need members and their guests to turn up even if they are just there as audience but there are plenty of roles that need to be filled and some can be used in the Leadership Manual.

We need...
Humorous Speech Contestants
Table Topics Contestants
2 Contest Chairs
3 or more judges for each Contest
Sargeant at Arms
Ushers
Counters
Timekeepers

So please make an effort to come along and try to bring a guest.  If you can let Peter know if you want to fill a role or attend it will help him to schedule the night in advance and this can be done using the D71.org website.

It should be a fun night...
