Meeting 20th January 2015 and other Club Business

You will have to bear with me as this may be quite a long post

The Last Meeting

This was a well attended and busy meeting which is becoming a regular feature at Heart of England.  It is only by attending meetings that we can complete our Competent Leadership and Competent Communicator Manuals and carry on improving on those skills.

We started off with an Educational by Peter.  An Educational is where a member gives a speech about knowledge that they have that will help other member to improve or understand how to get the best from Toastmasters.
Peter's Educational was a great demonstration of the website D71 (District 71 which is our local district).  This is a tool where members can plot their progress, book in for speeches or roles, manage their profiles or contact other members.  Peter strongly encouraged members to make the meeting planning go more smoothly by booking in advance and he showed how to do this with a PowerPoint presentation.

There were three other speeches.  Asma gave a moving speech encouraging us to look at homeless people with new eyes. Tanya presented a ten minute play for her Interpretive Speech manual and Mish completed her eighth speech which was the use of Visual Aids.

So all in all a packed evening although we did run a little late.  We made up for it with some great conversation in the bar afterwards.

Club Business

March 3rd is the club round of the Evaluation and International Speech contests.
It would be great if as many member as possible showed up as we need to fill a number of roles and it is helpful in filling in your Competent Communicator Manual.
Roles required are:-
Contestants - We already have a few members who have signed up for the International Speech Contest and  the Evaluation Contest
Contest Chairs - Each separate Contest needs a Chair to introduce Contestants and keep the contest flowing well.
Judges - There is a good set of instructions for judging and so this role is not as difficult or daunting as it may seem.
Timekeeper
Usher - to bring contestants through in turn so they can't hear each others' evaluations
Audience - We want to make this as realistic as possible for future rounds so please come along and support and try to bring a guest along with you.
