Happy New Year! Meeting - 7th July 2015
The Toastmaster year runs from July 1st to June 30th so this was the first meeting of the new year.
We started with a brief review of last year by Linda. Linda's aim for the year was to improve Evaluations and "Do even better". Linda felt this had been achieved by the club as we were complimented on the quality of our Evaluations in the review by the Area Governor after her visit.
The club achieved 8 out of 10 of the goals for the Distinguished Club Program which gives us a "Select Distinguished Club 2015" ribbon to add to the other ribbons on our banner.
These goals are made up from club members...
Attracting new members
Completing Competent Communicator Manuals
Completing Competent Leadership Manuals
Completing Advanced Manuals
Paying their dues on time so the club can pay Toastmasters International before the deadline
Committee Members attending training sessions
As members of a Toastmaster club we can all contribute to these goals and I will keep you informed throughout the year of how we are doing as I know Tanya will be on top of this as VPE. If you have a specific timeline then make sure you chat to Tanya who will help you to schedule it into the agenda.
After Linda's farewell she handed over the Presidency to Peter and presented him with Toastmaster President Seal.
With a new year comes a new committee and this year's committee are
President Peter Billingham
Vice President Education Tanya Barad
Vice President Membership Annabelle Malone
Vice President PR James Leckie
Secretary Linda Williams
Treasurer Dave Bryan
Sergeant At Arms Mish Barad
Immediate Past President Linda Williams.
Linda will be leaving us for pastures new very soon and Sanat Shelat has kindly agreed to take over for another year as Immediate Past President offering any support that Peter might need.
Peter gave us a speech next outlining his plans for the year. Peter reminded us of the value of Toastmasters and what it aims to do and also confirmed that by simply turning up intermittently and completing your Manuals you will undoubtedly gain a lot.
He did emphasis, however, that commitment brings it's own rewards and so the more you put into your Toastmaster Club the more you will get from it.
His summing up was as follows :-
""Ours is the only organization I know dedicated to the individual, we work together to bring out the best in each of us and then we apply these skills to help others.
Over the next 12 months my aim is to help you all fulfil the vision of Toastmasters
Committed to growth - as individuals and as a club
Committed to each other
Committed to serving ""
We then had three great speeches where Ian introduced us to the "Airport Cat", Asma took us along on a stunning journey to Machu Picchu in Peru and Tony auditioned for Britain's Got Talent at the beginning of his speech.
You really had to have been there...
Ian led Table Topics with a very innovative topic. He produced a collection of old coins and put one face down in front of each member. When called to speak they turned over the coin and spoke about memories, history or imaginings based on the date on that coin. This produced some very inventive Table Topics.
Awards
Best Speaker - Ian
Best Evaluator - Alison
Best Table Topic - Alison
A great start to what I predict will be yet another successful year for Heart Of England Club.
See you all at the next meeting

Thanks Mish. I really appreciate the effort that you put into recording this information. It's a great legacy for the club and always useful to be able to look back and see what happened on any given night. Thank you very much for the extra effort in writing and publishing it.
