Meeting 5th August 2014
Well!
What a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
There was a good turnout last night so it was a vibrant meeting with a lot of humour. It is strange how the different meetings can have different moods.
There were 4 great speeches ranging from a 2nd speech to a speech to a 12-15 minute Advanced Manual which gave a good range of talent and experience.
The 4 evaluations were excellent and all included some good positive feedback, some insight into how the speeches were delivered and, most importantly, some great points for improvement.
Points for improvement are an essential part of the learning process and are the way in which we, as Toastmasters, can be encouraged to "up our game".
This is the direction our President, Linda Williams, has outlined for this year or in her words..
"This year we aim to Do Better"
Table Topics had to be quite short because there was an extended speech but Tanya used the Topics wisely to get us back on schedule so we didn't finish too late. As usual there were some really good, open topics and 4 excellent speeches which made judging very difficult.
There were a few hiccups in the evening which were pointed out by our General Evaluator, Peter Billingham, including a few people forgetting to hand over to the Toastmaster but this can be put down to experience or nerves.
Peter did forget to evaluate the Evaluators as part of his role as General Evaluator. This is often the only feedback Evaluators get but it wasn't too much of a problem because there was the usual informal evaluating and chatting between members during the breaks.
Awards for the evening
Best Speaker - Diane Faoutolo
Best Evaluator - Tanya Barad
Best Table Topic Speaker - Marc Zerfahs
So well done to these three and everyone else who filled a role. Although we did have to keep recounting votes as Marc kept forgetting to hand in his voting slip to much laughter all around.
Being Toastmasters Heart of England no meeting would be complete without our second meeting in the bar.
All are welcome to join us and it is useful for getting less formal feedback and constructive comments, a good way to hear what is happening in the Club and the Area but mostly it is a good opportunity for us to get to know a little more about each other in a more relaxed setting. One member mentioned last night that he enjoyed this part of the evening as much as the meeting.
Those who attended are invited to add any comments about their feelings about the meeting.
Speak soon, Mish
